Text description provided by the architects. The centre of Edam dates from the 14th century, is situated close to Amsterdam and next to the IJsselmeer in the middle of the Netherlands. The canals are majestic, with elegant buildings and cheese warehouses.
The architecture of this area is carefully and profoundly detailed. You can see this in the composition, materialization and lots of details. The location of the building is in a district build in the seventies. The buildings in this neighborhood are build in a period of lack of houses.
Most of them are therefore build and designed fast and with a small budget. A lot of building elements are prefabricated and realized without much craft at all. The program consists in 30 social dwellings. 13 houses for families (95m2) with a garden and 17 apartments for elderly people (85m2) with a private balcony.
We tried to conform with the architecture in the seventies neighborhood and copy the quality of the architecture situated in the centre of Edam with all its richness.
